Jaisohn Student Scholarship Program

The Philip Jaisohn Memorial Foundation is pleased to offer scholarships for college and graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and service to their schools and communities.  Other qualifications for each scholarship are specified below.  Please indicate clearly in your application which of the following scholarships you are applying for: (Deadline July 24, 2023)

Wooyoung Lee Scholarship

1 recipient, $1,500

 

Bong Hak Hyun Memorial Scholarship

2 recipients, $1,500 each

This scholarship is for two students who are planning a career in healthcare and the medical field with evidence of potential, passion and leadership.

Talent Scholarship

2 recipient, $1,500

 

Chong Sik Lee Scholarship

1 recipient, $1,500

 

Jae & Dae Foundation Scholarship

1 recipient, $1,500

 

Daniel D. Yun MD Medical Scholarship

1 recipient, $1,500

This scholarship, sponsored by Daniel D. Yun MD, is for a student who is pursuing a medical career with evidence of academic excellence and dedication to healthcare.

Jeong H. Kweon Hope Scholarship

2 recipients, $1,500 each

This scholarship, sponsored by Mrs. Jeong Hee Kweon, is for two students who are pursuing their academic career even in the midst of financial hardship without discouragement.

Tang Pharmacy Scholarship

1 recipient, $1,500

This scholarship, sponsored by Mr. Daniel Tang of Tang Pharmacy, is for one student who is pursuing their academic career even in the midst of financial hardship without discouragement.

Good Neighbor Scholarship

1 recipient, $1,500

 

To apply, please submit the following:

Please indicate which scholarships you are applying for in the order of your preference.  If you were a previous scholarship recipient, you are not qualified.

      • Cover letter
      • Resume
      • School transcript
      • Letter of recommendation
      • Documented evidence for financial need for those scholarships for the “Needs”
      • Essay – limited to 500-600 words (Topic 2 – African American students;  Topic 1 – All others):
        1. Philip Jaisohn (Soh, Jai-Pil)’s “Korea Independence Movement in America and His Advocacy Efforts” and what do they mean to you for our community needs today?
        2. Similarity between the Leadership Characteristics of Dr. Philip Jaisohn and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and what attributes that you can use for our community needs?

Note:

  • The winners of the Scholarship Awards or family members are required to attend the Award Ceremony to be held on August 12 (Saturday), 10:00 AM, at the Philip Jaisohn Monument in Rose Tree Park, 1671 N Providence Road, Media, PA.
  • Immediate family members of staff and Board of Directors of the Foundation are NOT eligible to apply.

Scholarship Announcement of Awardees:    July 28, 2023 (Friday)
