The Philip Jaisohn Memorial Foundation is very pleased to announce its 18th scholarship programs to provide financial assistance to Korean American students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership and services to their schools and communities. Applications are invited.

There are several categories of the Scholarship Awards as indicated below. To be eligible for the Scholarship Awards, the applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student as of September 2016 who is in need of financial support for their education. Please indicate clearly in your application which of the following scholarships you are applying for.

Helen Lee Scholarship
2 recipients, $2,000 each
This award will be given to a student who needs financial support for their education desperately.

Bong Hak Hyun Memorial Scholarship
2 recipients, $1,500 each
This award is for a student who is planning a career in health care and the medical field with evidence of potential, passion and leadership.

Jane Song Memorial Scholarship
1 recipient, $2,000
This award is for a nursing student or student pursuing a career in the area of “patient care” upon graduation.

Whan Soon Chung Scholarship
1 recipient, $1,500
This award is for a student who is planning a career in health care and/or the medical field. The student must also demonstrate an interest in following in the footsteps of Dr. Philip Jaisohn as a role model.

H.R. Chung Leadership Scholarship
1 recipient, $1,500
The award will be given to a student who has shown excellence in leadership in such a variety of activities as extracurricular activities, varsity sports, and community activities.

Tai Won Suhr Foundation Journalism Scholarship
1 recipient, $1,500
This award is for a student who is planning a career in journalism with evidence of potential and community service.


Hi C. Chun Social Service Scholarship

1 recipient, $1,000
This award is for a student who has participated in social service activities with evidence of community service and future potential.

Jeong Hi Kweon Hope Scholarship
2 recipients, $1,000
This award is for a student who makes every effort to continue their studies with “Hope and Determination” despite financial difficulties and lack of family support.

Additional scholarship awards may be given to applicants who are not selected for the above award categories as an encouragement.

Interviews will be conducted for finalists.

The recipient of the scholarship is required to attend the scholarship awards ceremony to be held on in October 10, 2016 (To be confirmed).

2016년도 (제18회) 서재필재단 장학생 모집 공고

본 서재필 기념재단은 올해 (2016년), 대학생을 위한 소정의 장학금을 아래와 같이 수여 하고자 하니 수혜 대상자는 많이 응모하여 주시기 바랍니다.

1. 대상: 2016년 9월 현재, 대학이나 대학원 혹은 그에 상응하는 과정에 재학중인 학생으로 장래가 촉망되나 경제적인 도움이 필요한 학생.
2. 선정인원 및 장학금액:
a. 헬렌리 장학금 (Helen Lee Scholarship): 2명, $2,000씩 지급,
특히 학비보조 등 경제적인 도움이 절실하게 필요한 학생
b. 현봉학 기념 장학금 (Bong Hak Hyun Memorial Scholarship): 2명, $1,500씩 지급
특히 의학도나, 의학관련 공부를 하며 성적이 우수하고, 앞으로 지역사회에 봉사할 학생
c. 제인송 기념 장학금 (Jane Song Memorial Scholarship): 1명, $2,000 지급,
특히 간호학을 공부하거나 환자간호 등에 관련된 부문에 일할 계획인 학생
d. 정환순장학금 (Whan Soon Chung Scholarship): 1명, $1,500 지급
특히 의학관련 공부를 하여 서재필박사의 정신을 본 받고자 하는 학생
e. 정학량 리더쉽 장학금 (H.R. Chung Leadership Scholarship): 1명, $1,500 지급
특히 학생회, Varsity sports, 지역 사회 활동 등에서 뛰어난 지도력을 보이는 학생
f. Journalism 장학금 (Tae Won Suh Journalism Scholarship): 1명, $1,500 지급
저널리즘 관련 공부를 하며 성적이 우수하고, 앞으로 지역사회를 위하여 봉사할 학생
g. 전희준 사회봉사 장학금 (Hi. C. Chun Social Service Scholarship): 1명, $1,000지급
특히 social service,사회봉사에 활발히 참여하며,봉사 정신이 투철한 학생
h. 권정희 희망 장학금(Jeong Hi Kweon Hope Scholarship): 2명, $1,000씩 지급
특히 경제적인 문제, 가족역경 등으로 어려운 환경에도 불구하고 희망과 의지로 학업을 계속하고자 노력하는 학생

기타 우수한 학생들에게도 일정액의 장학금을 지급할 예정이니 많이응모하기 바랍니다.

* Finalists에 한하여 interview를 실시할 예정이며, 장학금 수혜자는10월 중에 있을 수상행사 (장학금 수여식)에 반드시 참석하여야 함.
